Probability (P) is the likelihood that a device hazard leads to a hazardous situation and the likelihood a hazardous situation will result in actual harm. It is often calculated by multiplying the probability of a hazardous situation occurring (P1 ) by the probability of that situation causing harm (P2 ), expressed as P=P1×P2.
